According to ministry officials, the curriculum, as per the New Education Policy (NEP), is ready and textbooks will be developed on its basis for the 2024 academic session

1) According to the Ministry of Education's statement, board exams will be conducted twice a year & students will be allowed to retain the best score

2) Board exams will assess understanding, achievement of competencies than months of coaching and memorisation

3) Students of classes 11 & 12 must study two languages, the ministry said, adding that at least one of these must be Indian

4) Current practice of 'covering' textbook portions in classrooms will be avoided & cost of the books will be optimised

5) Students to get flexibility to choose subjects in classes 11, 12 & not be restricted to 'streams' such as Arts, Science & Commerce.

The class 10th and 12th board exams in India will be held twice a year starting from the academic year 2024-25. This is a major reform that has been proposed by the Ministry of Education as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The decision to hold board exams twice a year is based on the following reasons:

• To reduce the pressure on students: The current system of having a single board exam at the end of the year puts a lot of pressure on students. This can lead to stress and anxiety, and it can also discourage students from taking risks and trying new things. Holding board exams twice a year will give students more opportunities to perform well and improve their scores.
• To make the assessment process more holistic: The current system of board exams only assesses students' knowledge of the syllabus. Holding board exams twice a year will allow for a more holistic assessment of students' learning, including their skills, aptitude, and attitude.
• To make the education system more flexible: The current system of board exams is rigid and does not allow for much flexibility. Holding board exams twice a year will give students more flexibility in terms of when they take their exams. This will be especially helpful for students who have other commitments, such as sports or extracurricular activities.

The exact dates for the board exams have not yet been announced, but they are expected to be held in the months of May and November. Students will be allowed to choose which exam they want to take, and they will be able to retain the best score.

The reform of holding board exams twice a year is a positive step towards making the education system in India more student-centric and holistic. It will also help to reduce the stress and anxiety that students face, and it will give them more opportunities to perform well.
